i've got a pair of of ST-2300 for triple front end, i'd find a double much more useful. Anyone fancy trading just the left shifter? cosmetically only "ok" but works exactly as it should

You can use this with a double front mech. There will just be some cable slack. Imagine it set up as a triple. Now imagine you take the inner ring off and adjust the mech so the chain doest drop to where the little ring was. Voila, you're using it a a double

yep, i've been reading about that and had a play. Seems to work well enough.
