Anyone seen a GT Lightning or Xizang in a shop - I want one

......as title, I want a GT Lightning or Xizang from a bike shop as we have just joined the Cyclescheme at work.

No point in buying a new bike if an old skool cool one is available is there?

......so if anyone spots such a beastie in a bike shop please let me know.....

It is incredibly unlikely you will find either a Lightnig or a Xizang new, and unused sitting in a shop.

(they were most likely all bought by a certain forum member years ago)


If there were any, people on here wouldn't spend five years searching for one - they would just pop down the shops wouldn't they...

It's not as easy as simply nipping out to buy some "old skool cool" - there's a bit of effort involved.


If anyone comes across a stash of new Ti Bontys, just sitting unused in a shop somewhere...

Thanks for the advice. I didn't actually say that I wanted a new one, nor do I expect to find a new one. But I did think that it was worth a shot asking the experts here as in the past Retrobike folk have been incredibly helpful and encouraging.
In terms of effort I think that my Highpath restoration reflects my commitment to Retrobikes.

I have a really nice GT Karakoram Elite right now so I thought that I'd get another retro GT through the bike to work scheme if I could. Why use the planets resources buying new when an old bike is available?

I live and breath bikes, both cycles and trials motor cycles. It's my job to teach both disciplines and I am an ACU Offroad Coach as well as holding two cycling instructor tickets. The ride to work isn't always on the road, which explains me wanting an offroad bike.

I pretty certain it can't be used to pick up an old bike.

I have checked it out with the Department for Transport and the guidance rules of February 2011 state that:

"Employees can choose any bike - including electric bikes, folding bikes and other specialist cycles, - providing it can be provided by one of Cyclescheme’s 1,600 Partner Shops."

"Employees should use the bike mainly for commuting to and, if relevant, between work places (at least 50% of the bike’s use should be for work purposes). However, the bike can also be used for non-work purposes "
