hi anyone ride fixie mtb ? ive seen the odd one on youtube ect, i like the idea of it all an have an old mtb that needs somthing doing with, would be more on road but anyone ride offroad with one?

I don't understand this, but then this place frequently educates :)

I rode fixed on the road many years ago, way before it was trendy, but can't think of the benefits translating to off road, I could (and do) see single speed benefits (I have a ss mtb set up) but I would have thought unless using like a road bike on road then positively dangerous off road as can't run with horizontal cranks when terrain requires etc ?

what would you hope to achieve or gain ?

I want to try one on road after trying a frends road fixe. Only reason i was thinking mtb is that i have a frame ect spare. Came across a few offroad vids on you tube after looking for mtb fixies an they were using them over some rough stuff. I wouldnt want to try it just thought i would see if anyone was mad enough on here. I hope to gain better leg control off riding fixed mainly back stoke of the peddles. Also its cheap an would be a hack bike. I might chicken out an just run ss ha ha

Care in the community?...maybe an ASBO for me with my RC300 fixed:

8.2kg...nice.

No gears, very light, one brake, no freewheeling...sounds like torture, but on less extreme terrain they're brilliant. Sort of connected to the terrain.
More off-road fixed stuff archived by Will Meister over at http://www.63xc.com/

All the best,

Just visited the site and seen some of the characters. Question, when their on Tag does it catch in the chain?
Joking aside you all love your bikes and good luck to you. :) Long may it continue.

Chap over on stw has a fixed mtb, that he uses off road. Don't think it's one for the faint hearted. Or for anyone who lives anywhere hilly!

Crikey Dan,
Just so happening to have such a desirable frame built up for a specialist subdivision of a niche style is a bit decadent! How I envy your bike collection!

I'd think fixed gear would be awful because of not being able to position the pedals where you want them for balance (the missus powering the pedals around on the tandem has caught me out a couple of times like this).
