For sale locally.... I feel like I know what it is!

Components too good for your usual BSO.

Any ideas?

It looks like its got a disc brake mount on it, so relatively modern which makes me think cheap as URT had possibly been replaced by modern designs on higher end bikes by then. The lack of a quill stem was making me think perhaps it wasnt a piece of total junk but the height on it leads me to think it could have one of those quill conversions? I think its maybe a catalogue type bike (thought it might be a halfords shockwave on first glance) that someone has tarted up. Im sure many a teenager has thrown better parts onto a cheap bike than an unknowing family member bought them.

the forks are ahead as the aheadset is a bit of a give away

I agree, and I should know, I've seen more cheap tat than most of us have had warm pints of ale.

Re:

It was the Magura brakes which made me question.

Looked a bit like one of the later 90's Gary Fisher Joshua. It's very similar... but when you look closer it's not as well constructed.
