After two generations Granada Ford took a new direction with the successor: a more rounded design with improved aerodynamics, a fifth door and ABS standard on all models are among what was new. In mainland Europe also the name was new: Scorpio. In the UK Ford kept the Granada name, with Scorpio being reserved for the top end Granada Mk3.
I purchased my Scorpio earlier this year. In mainland Europe there were three trim levels available for the 1st gen Scorpio: CL, GL and Ghia. The car pictured is a MY89 GL with 2.0i Pinto-engine. Back in 1990 my father owned a CL (DOHC). My GL has all the nice stuff in the brochure my father got from the dealer, but that my fathers car did not have. 'Luxury' like clock in the ceiling, nicer console with armrest, velours, electric mirrors and so on. For me this car is a trip down memory lane, this time with the luxury that I lusted after. That it is all original and is pretty fresh with only 45k kms adds to that experience.
