Anyone else long term single and genuinely happy?

I don't like the word "needy", this new way of describing somebody. My daughter uses it as an excuse for dumping boyfriends. I think it is insulting. Usually used to describe somebody who would like to see more of you or is quite tactile. That is not "needy". It's human nature to be close to somebody you care for! grrr..
Oh. I've got four kids and never been in Mothercare.

For me, and I'm applying it to when I felt I was needy, it is needing someone else to define who you are, ie, you don't feel complete unless you are in a relationship, you are not entirely emotionally self sufficient. It can be very sapping for both of you. I admit though, it's a very over used phrase nowadays, if my teenage relations are anything to go by....

from my experience, it's when either one or the other feels almost 'smothered' or 'suffocated' or 'controlled' by the attention being paid to them by the other...... i would say it's probably THE major contributing factor to those on here currently enjoying their single status so much

Thank you! Finally got the thread back on track....

Although it's interesting to hear the views of others re. being in or not being in, a relationship, especially if they've had experience of being long term single in the past.

Don't be sorry, I wasn't having a go at you, your input was interesting, and thought provoking, it's just I don't want to drift in to the realms of relationships, rather those who are happy without them.
