Anyone else gone ALL RETRO ?

Now my fleet has been thinned right back I'm just left with the Alu 'O' but thats my baby ( almost scared to ride it!).
Although the next bike is going to be semi-modern and a rider so will have to go full bounce (far too old and fat for anything else!).

Having been a dedicated follower of fashion up until 2006, I sold my 'new' stuff after about a year of joining the site so have been relatively retro for the last 4 years.

6 months immersed in the modern world (and promptly spat back out) was enough to put me off all but the very best (and very expensive) new stuff - I'm talking lottery money here, 4,5,6k for a bike? I'll wait...

So its 1997 for the newest - and thats only 'cos I found it at the tip!

For me my 2008 Scott Scale is allmost retro. Have it for three years now and that a record for me. Or maybe beacuse it still has V-brakes and a Ringle H20 cage and sid Blue Hugi wheels. Well, it just rides that much faster then my retro steeds that I wont part with it.

For me it's still a search to find the proper retrobike with the longer headtube without being a gate. Till that time the Scott is the only one not hurting my shoulders and neck :D and the GT and Klein are here for the fun-rides.

Muct admit: retroparts are nicer then modern parts.....

Cheers,
Martin

I have just flogged the modern Carrera (great price) so I now have a fully retro fuly GT fleet !!

Anyone else got rid of their modern stuff completely ?
Any pitfalls to running old gear fulltime ?

at this point, I'm pretty much all retro...I would love a ;new' bike, but it's not in my budget
at the moment...the recession here in the states, is lasting longer than expected..

So I have to watch my pennies..

anyhow, I have a 1973 motorbecane 10 speed mirage sport,

two mongoose ATB's from 1985........M1 is fully retro...'cept for fenders.

M2 is retro...however, converted to single gear......all three bikes look well
for their ages..and ride very good....and I still get looks from other cyclists
when I'm out and about.....something about a totally chrome frame that gets
people's attention....and I love the idea of keeping a piece of cycling history
on the road....i..e. those three bikes....

My newest is now 98, I know 97 is the official retro cut-off here but
I might keep an eye out for some turn of the century high end GTs.

Why by new when there are an awful lot of 8-10 year old bargains to be had.

i never went modern. i just carried on riding my bike til i replaced it with another i liked the look of.

Sat in both camps at the moment

I have a modern full bounce Turner, and a retro C'dale raven sat in between is a Gary Fischer Kai Tai, which used to be single speed approx 2000 then it went 8 speed so the boy is riding it now. Looking to sell the Raven and look at single speed again. Not sure if the dodgy hip and knackered shoulder will take it but if you don't try.....
