Anybody use a quill to Aheadset adapter???

I ask as I currently have a threaded 1&1/8th headset on my '91 Kona Cinder Cone, and while the current period correct Syncros Cattle Prod looks great, I'm finding I'm getting quite a sore back on longer rides due to the stretched out riding position (frame is already fairly 'long' and the stem is about 110-120mm from memory).

So, ahead adapter + shorter, maybe 80/90mm stem could be the solution...?

But are the adapters OK? I'm usually against any additional interfaces in any part, but what do you guys think?

I used one on my khs pro when it was singlespeed and it took some hammer. It was fine, no problems to report.

OK, seems like they'll be fine, particularly as the Cinder Cone is now my road only training bike.

Where did you buy yours from, and are there adapters and adapters, so to speak? In quality / material terms I mean?

Only ones I've seen have been on ebay...

I've used (and use) a couple - absolutely fine. The BBB one is the best I've tried I think. The stem bolt has an external "nut" and the ahead bolt screws down in side that (I'm not explaining this very well!). Others have two (different sized!) allen key fittings and the threads inside the bigger one into which the ahead bolt fits can be easily damaged.

Try and find some pics to see what I'm trying to say!

Halfords £10 !
No problems as yet (bit heavy), it comes with shims for top and bottom
so you can mix 1" & 1 1/8th (Not that anyone in the shop KNOWS that !).

Chain Reactions were sold out of theirs for about 3 months and most of
the others on the web are for 1" fork to 1 1/8th headset (so beware).

After asking in about 3 LBS and several Halfords my local one said take one away and try it. Works fine.

i know it very well thanks!

I got one at Decathlon for £5.99 a couple of days ago.
I used to use them BITD and never had any problems.

I've used them to fit short threaded-steered forks to 1 1/8" Aheadsets - no drawbacks if you don't mind the weight?

BBB item is quality kit...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BBB-Extender-Quil ... 53e63c4e9b

BUT; if you read the very small print on the packaging the legend reads 'not for sustained hard road use or off road MTB..'

Though that is merely a legal disclaimer, so you makes yer choices and takes yer pick... ;)
