I think the decal is a "C" not a "G". A "C" for Cycles du Levant (lower part of the sticker) that is a bike shop in Ferney Voltaire.

It is really a "G" from Gitane. You were right!. Sorry for the confusion.

Quite obviously your frame has mudguard eyes so i'd start looking at touring Gitane bikes not racing bikes
