would a grease fitting type port in the bb shell be a giveaway on a 1991? i saw it mentioned in the 91 kona catalog on retrokona.

In short no.

a) as they can be retrofitted, and
b) the 91 catalog would have been produced around July 1990 and things change during production.

Definately an early one (pre 1994)

Friend at work brought an identical year Hei Hei and it's pretty nice although I'm a big fan of those lovely bullet drops on the later ones

As Anthony has said it's a TST built 1991 Hei Hei due to the low frame number.

Merlin only built the 1990 Kona Titanium (not a Hei Hei)
The Merlin built Konas have press-fit bottom brackets and are basically re-badged Merlin Mountains of that year.
