Any electrical / LCD fix stuff type wizards out there?

No worries, thanks anyway. A guy on a another forum is trying to get copies made but they keep coming back wrong from where ever they're making them.

Is it common to get new ribbon cables and glue them back to the LCD? I mean, is it something that happens with other pieces of equipment that someone could do at home? Or just a factory type thing.

Sadly none of this stuff is designed for repair - you can find what looks like a replacement flexy only to discover that it is 0.5mm out by the time you get to the far connection pad on the glass. There's no standardisation and you are on your own with what you can get to work.

Personally I'd clean up the flexy with acetone and then attempt to stick it down with duct or Tesa tape. My guess is that you have a 10% chance of it all working. Probably you can get some lines working but it's very fiddly to get all at once.

So they just use a type of glue to stick the ribbon to the LCD? I guess at long at it makes contact it's okay. I think I might try to borrow a heatgun too.

There's another model that people have been able to convert to VGA. Apparently it's not possible with this thing.

Oh well, looks like I'll have to fork out 200 on a new one.

Do electricians fix these sorts of things or is there somewhere I could take it who might have a clue how to fix it? I imagine the ribbon cable could be replaced possibly.
