G garrema Retrobike Rider Jan 28, 2011 #7 Best results as a clear coat would be a 2 coat system, base coat a high quality aliphatic epoxy based system followed by a 2 K aliphatic PU clear as used in auto refinish or plane paints. Marine varnish will yellow if its Aromatic Alkyd as many are.

B bojangle Retro Guru Jan 28, 2011 #8 As long as you 'key' the frame with scotchbrite (red or grey) any rattle can laquer will do!! They are after all the same thing for the one simple reason, thats all they are allowed to sell to the general public due to COSHH regs. Trust me, i'm a doctor!
