I was very tempted to do the same,,,,, i was going to get one and rebuild it back to original as my friend has another one of these and an older carlton. I spoke to a chap called Ray who worked at the carlton factory about mine. Apparently, this is the frame that they told Raleigh would never work due to the rear stays and the way they attach on to the seat tube..... He is a fountain of knowledge. Anyway, I will get some more close ups on later. I've checked as far as possible and all the equipment is original spec. Not the high end equipment but how it was built back then. Going to give it a complete service and then ride it. Although I may have to change the original tyres.... To say i am chuffed is an understatement.
