Mr LGF would you recommend the Passat as a good family car?

I've had a polo for 4 years now and its been bombproof so far, but due to a new baba on its way i need something bigger, Ive just been looking at a Passat TDI 130 estate today on a 51 plate with 116000 miles on it. but full vw service history.

You know the Passat and it's faults. The Doblo is the ugliest car on the road today and probably not as comfortable; Keep the Passat. Better the devil you know! ;)

Take the passat for a test drive and floor it in 3rd to over 4000 rpm, if theres a sudden drop in power, walk away.

Make sure that EVERY electrical thing works. Check the EGR valve is connected (located under the plastic engine cover, back left), not connected hides rough idle.

Make sure the windows work properly - very expensive to fix if you hear any 'grinding'

Make sure the front footwells are bone dry - ECUs are located under here and are expensive to replace. good pointer to see if the electrics work ok is to make sure the remote locking arms the alarm.

Its the crossover between cellulose and water based painst - some rust, a lot and some dont, ever.

I know of a S55 AMG that has had 14 panels replaced under warranty, whereas some are still perfect.
