Right - I drive a taxi all night and bum about here all day...
My taxi is a 2001 VW Passat SE TDI 130.
Its got 8 months left of its taxi test (MOT) and 138,000 miles
The turbo cuts out when it feels like - various bits have been changed to try and sort this out with success.
It can potentially do 72mpg on a long run.
Cambelt done at 123,000, serviced and tested.
Its comfy, tidy and in good cosmetic condition.
Now, I've been trying out the Missus' new Doblo
Old school 1.9 JTD ELX with 105 BHP and so far, 56mpg.
They come cheap, low mileage and are inexpensive to repair. Much cheaper for parts too.
My questions is, should I go for a Doblo or keep the troublesome Passat?
I would probably get about £1500 back for the VW and have to fork out around £3000 to set me up in the Fiat for a year.
Not bothered by Fiats lack of image and more annoyed at VW's 'bomb proof' rep as so far its unfounded.
We put 45,000 miles on a Fiat Bravo in a year with only one genuine fault. The VW has done less miles and keeps fooking up.
