Another eBay Restoration Project, 1988 or 89 Marin Muirwoods

An entry level Marin is not the first choice for a resto project and Im not a great fan of Marin either, but when I came across this on eBay I found it oddly appealing with its yellow paintwork and lower U-brake configuration. I am unsure if its an 88 or an 89 model

Arriving at the sellers house, It was evident the bike had been neglected and seen better days with rust coming through the faded and scratched paintwork. The mix of Exage Country and Mountain components are tired but functional, worst of which is the play in the top pivot of the rear mech.

The rear wheel is not original nor are the tyres but the rest is the same as it was sold, even the seat is in good order.

I have now stripped it and will be taking it to a company in Peterborough tomorrow for bead blasting and powder coating. Ive been in touch with Gil and hope to get the period decals made up.

Got the same bike, had it since new. Only difference looks to be that mine has cantilever brakes. Mine an 89 so expect this is an 88 unless they changed during the year. How did it turn out. Not far from Peterborough and thinking about powder coating mine as it's faded and a few rust spots now.
