Anjou Velo Vintage 2018

Had a fab time at this years Velo Vintage in the Loire valley. Me and my Bro took a couple of 80s bikes and had a go at one of the routes.

We were really impressed with the event - well organised but not stuffy or corporate. Loads of people really getting into the spirit of it, and plenty of cracking bikes.

A couple of UK old timers performed faultlessly (their riders did okay). No punctures despite there being a number of gravel sectors (go Pasela).

I've been three times (not in 2018 as I'm in France for the TdeF next month), it's a very nice event and as you say, not at all corporate and quite French.

I went again this year with a bunch of club mates two of which you have captured in the picture of the jumble. John on his Gillott and Alan on his ALAN in his 7up gear. That picture must have been taken before the start of the 120km as I cant see hoards of people milling about. Alan rode that one and complained about the lack of food on the ride whereas on the 60km which was actually 70km plus the 35km to and from had so many stops for wine food and more wine that I was full to bursting.

I finished a replica of my fathers 1953 George Brooks days before we left for Anjou. I have had the frame ready to build for four years but when my father died soon after I could not bring myself to build it up, even after all that time it was an emotional time putting it together and on the ride too. The bike rode absolutely great and was a joy over all the different surfaces. He is surprisingly quick and almost silent.

We will all be back next year.

Ha! Yes the photo was taken on the Sat AM before the Gravels ride.

I was taken by the range of bikes - great to see some ancient stuff going for it too.

The gravel sectors were a hoot, but I'd like to do one of the shorter routes next time (or maybe both!)
