This is what mine look like, and in need of new outers it seems, not bad for 25 years.

So I was aware this could be an issue, I have some cable ends with extended narrow bits on from Jagwire which I *think* should work. I really should whip them out and see later on... I don't have the rear hanger bit so it will need to be Vs which is okay. Alternatives are then either ful length outers or Maguras....

I might still have the rear hanger from my 856, will have a hunt round but don't get your hopes up just yet :)
 
Good news: Quick check confirms I'm good with my cable ends... Not as elegant as Joe*Pro's originals but will certainly function fine.
