And today I did......

£1200 to fix a car that is barely worth £1200 on a very good day

I'm done with cars for a while, they eat cash before they've even turned a wheel.

Scrap it, buy a good runner Ford Mondeo or Escort, even Fiat Punto or something for a half than that. Prices will drop on the end of year and you can get decent 60-80k mile car for a peanuts. True, you'll get screw on road tax and more likely petrol buing big engine car but maybe not as you aren't drive that much I suppose.
Just yesterday I've seen 1.6L 9 year old Avensis estate with 90k on clock for £500 in Glasgow. That's just example of worry free drive. For a while at least :)

Rado, in this country we have a surprising loophole in UK road law. A person with a full motorcycle licence but not a car driving licence can drive a car provided that car is in the UK classification B1. I'm a biker not a car licence holder and I have exploited this loophole with my last 2 vehicles. I cannot just go out and buy a normal car, I'm not allowed to drive them.

Anyway I will be exploiting the B1 law further as I'll be damned if the scrappy is going to get my wee car for nothing and then sell the parts for something. I'll get it back on my driveway and strip off a few of the easily removed components not directly connected to roadworthiness for ebay sale. Hopefully some of this cash can be directed toward a newish gearbox that will allow a stripped down version of the car to function :?

You're coming back round to the Hayabusa engine transplant, aren't you Velo?!?!?

Now, who do we know who could help with that?

Cool though a Hyabusa engined microcar would be it would then be a car and I couldn't drive it. Unfortunately 20BHP is my allowed limit on 4 wheels but perversley on 3 wheels a hyabusa engine would be perfectly allowed, UK/EU vehicle law is weird

I have decided that I point blank refuse to scrap a car with 12 months MOT and Tax purely because one, admittedly important, component is kaput. The scrappy is not getting it for near nowt and then selling on the components for pure profit. Its going back on my drive untill I raise more funds tied up in stuff around my house I should've ebayed ages ago

Yes,yes I know, really cool and all that but its a car not a heavy quad as my tupperware vehicle is classed

Anyhoo i cant drive a Smart car in normal mode as its a car not a heavy quad.

Hyabusa, ZXR1100 and V-Max bike engines have all been grafted into Reliants. Occasionally you see them on ebay but I suspect the insurance would be iffy
