An evenings work, Saracen + Marin Content

Spent the evening with badbaz77 building his two retro bikes that he has recently purchased the Saracen was purchased here and was in a bit of a sorry state with a screwed rear mech, mismatch of brakes, knacked rear wheel hub along with various other problems. It was originally intended for his other half. so we set to work to rid it of any tat and breathe new life into it.
So we added a Deore LX rear mech, STX-RC front, Deore LX Canti's, Ritchey logic brake levers, Altus C10 chainset, a set of Trek silver flat bars, Acera hubs and Weinmann rims. Shame the only shifters we had left were 200GS STi's but they were better than the ones on there. This is the final result which is not bad at all.

It will be off to a new home this one though as the Palisades Trail which he got last weekend got chosen on preference by his other half. This was also not spared the treatment. However it was equiped quite well before we started with a Tange DB Cro-mo frame in really good condition, Deore LX Biopace chainset, 500LX hubs and Araya VP-20 rims. We added Deore LX front and rear mechs, STX-RC underbar pods, STX-RC levers, Avid single digit V's. Today it will be getting a new set of grips and the Onza bar ends fitted. In the future though a set of short travel suspension forks are probably on the cards as well. It did turn into a nice looking bike.

Both look good, been years since I built any type of bike, and that was a BMX. Found it quite enjoyable,

I think all together all parts inc the actual bikes cost about £95, so well happy. The wife really likes the marin, keeps going out and touching it.

In fact, the marin cost diesel money, so even better.

That Marin is really quite nice. A good honest bike.
