One last time (maybe)....since I was in Manchester, we did a special 2-hour Takeover, broadcast live from the magical Reform Radio studios. It's my take on some of the very best electronica 2024 had to offer. It's super-hard to do it justice given just how much amazing new music was released in 12 months, but I reckon it's a pretty accurate snap-shot of the earworms, head noodles and most enquired tracks. Which hit the right nerve for you

You know the drill. If you like what you heard, please support the artist/s and buy their music. Streaming isn't sustainable contrary to what those platforms will tell you. Cold hard cash, no matter how little, purchased on-line on in a store, it what really helps keep alive the "scene" we love so much. With that, here's your shopping list:

Saint Etienne - Half Light
TOMMY '86 - 6 a.m
Sueisfine - Dolphin Vibes
Timeshare'94 - Westward Bound
900x - Wisdom
Oblique Occasions - Crown Of Thornes
haircuts for men - Oracles From The Orenburg Oubliette
The Future Sound Of London - Slow Moving Carcass
Rephazer - Peat
Clocolan - the colours of one mind
HOLODEC - Tuff Riff
Skee Mask - Element
Fields Of Mist - Sunrise On Moss Landing Platform 5
slowerpace - Bohemian Junkheap
Akemi Sato - What Love Feels Like (First Days Together)
Nathaniel Sutton - Sail
Moxin - To The Edge
Hotel Pools - Detach
Kate Slush - Fascination (Radio Edit)
Oblique Occasions - Shot Down
Luxxury Elite - dream girl
Macroblank - ambushed again
Survey Channel - Deep Vision (Single Mix)
Sferro & TOMMY '86 - Shadow Work
One Half Of Bent - Alpha Waves
concretism - 39 Furnival Street (Faex Option Remix)
Cyberwalker - Digital Sunrise
waterfront dining - maybe (another chance)

The next day it was down to London and the final New Seeds of the year. Each December we park new electronica for a throw-down boogie celebration. All the good vibes to get your moving and shaking 🥰

Whilst many of these records are old, it's not excuse not to do the artists a favour and buy them rather than use those shitty streaming platforms that pay $0.00001 a play. At least the dollars, pounds and euros flying around discogs or your local records store keep the scene alive. So with that, here's your shopping list:

Khruangbin - Christmas Time Is Here
Natasha King - AM-FM (Rap)
Girls On Top - Being Scrubbed
Swing Out Sister - Surrender (Stuff Gun Mix)
Pet Shop Boys - Love Comes Quickly (Dance Mix)
The System - You Are In My System (Extended Mix)
Thelma Houston - You Used To Hold Me (12" Version)
Babe Ruth - The Mexican
Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) (12" Mix)
The Jets - Crush On You (Extended Version)
Kajagoogoo - Hang On Now (Extended Version)
Crazy P - Human After All
Ils - About That Time
Matt Karmil - So You Say (Dirty Tape Heads Mix)
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker
Modjo - What I Mean ("The Crayon" Remix By Aloud)
Alan Braxe & Fred Falke - Intro
Technotronic Feat. Felly - Pump Up The Jam (Instrumental)
Chaka Khan - I Feel For You (Remix)
Paradis - Le Bal Des Oublies
DJ Falcon & Thomas Bangalter - Together
waterfront dining - maybe (another chance)

Big up everyone who's listened in live or replayed this year. Loads more to come in 2025 for sure 👍🥰😍

Re:

Wasn't aware of it but am now :D

I'm afraid all our local record shops disappeared a loooooooong time ago :(

But I shall celebrate by treating the kids to a marathon cd session. I think we'll start off with some Saturday Night Fever...

Re:

Really? Well there are still plenty of amazing gold mines out there. A few of my fav's include:

JIMS - Reading: http://justimaginationmemorabilia.blogspot.co.uk/
Alan's records - East Finchley: http://www.alansrecords.com/page2.html
Wanted Music - Beckenham: http://www.vinylhunt.com/stores/704
In Living Stereo - New York: http://inlivingstereo.com/
Piccadilly Record - Manchester: http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/counter/index.php
Rough Trade (East) - Brick Lane, London: http://www.roughtrade.com/

You'd be surprised how many are left if you do a little digging ;-)

Re: Record store day 19/04/14

Spent my first student loan on some 1210's. They were lovely. Had to sell them by the end of the first term as I was terminally skint, but it was a pleasure owning them.

Re:

I've had mine just over a year now and they've been an absolute pleasure to use. They really are as good as the hype: the Chris King of the DJ world. Totally reliable, look great and are built to last forever.

Before I had a pair of pretty basic belt drive things which were fine for messing on but hopeless in every other way.

There's a petition going around at the moment to get Panasonic to re-start production. Sadly I think it's a non-starter :-(

Re:

I just did a search on the website... I really hadn't realised how many stored I have in my area.

We have a great little independent shop in Weston-s-Mare, but Raves from the Graves in Frome has been my local for years.

I'm on my 4th set. I've bought and had to sell various pairs over the years, but have a nice set of MK3's now.
I had some brand new 1200 MK5's a few years ago, then my flat flooded and I needed the funds for the repairs
I tried CDJ's last year and hated them.
Do you only use vinyl? I use a mix of vinyl and serato and find it covers all bases :D

Re:

It took me years to be pursuaded to dry a move to the dark side
I started djing weddings etc a few years back and that was the driver behind trying serato really.
There's a hell of a lot less to carry, plus it's easier to deal with requests.
I still use my 1210's with it though, just with the time-coded vinyl
