looks like a cracking day out, rode a few of them trails and know what you mean, rigid and cantis make for a brutal day- love the pics and wish I could have been there
Belting pictures and good weather too, looks like a top ride . I don't mind a bit o' climbing either, not sure about doing it with a bike on my shoulder though! I was cursing the fact that I couldn't go (bloody volcano). A 400 mile round trip without sharing the driving would have killed me though.
Looking at the pics it looks like the ride might have been tough in places on old machinery, gotta have a bit of mechanical sympathy for the old warhorses and think about using something with good stoppers and suspension maybe? Hats off to those who did it retro but I wouldn't want to put my older bikes through any sort of punishment. I guess a full report of the ride will tell us just how hard / retro friendly the ride was.
trying to stop 16.5stone with v-brakes killed my arms/wrists. my back and shoulders were knacked off the 1'' travel forks and i felt every piece of slate/gravel through the skinny 1.95 rubber......
would i do it again?........HELL YES
loved every minute of it, great bikes, great scenery and most of all superb company!
Some great pics guys. I'm making a start on sifting though mine. I will load them up and do a full report in the morning when I get proper t'interweb access.
