Allin Special Stan Butler, probably 1973 for sale

It's a 58 cm Allin Special Stan Butler, built in croydon, probably in 1973. This is frame nr 2168 out of about 2400 built in the Allin workshop in total.

-Original paint job in good condition for its age, chromed forks and chainstay.

-shimano 600 crankset

-mallard tubular wheels hand built in France

-New Vittoria competition 23c tubulars have just been fitted. Will also throw in some tubular tape and an extra tubular that is pretty much in new condition but has had one little puncture that has been repaired.

-MKS pedals fitted with large cages and red double leather straps.

-competizone handlebars with a very nice shellack and french cloth tape work.

small dent on top tube, see picture. Purely cosmetic and not very apparent.

I had something just shy of £300 in mind.

Can be viewed and taken for a test spin in Nunhead, south east london.

Ha.. this is jokes.

This is my old frame, It was me that put the dent in the top tube (going through the window screen of a car), so I speak from experience when I say that.. Yes, it is (probably) not structural, however is worse than you make out. The top tube is completely out of alignment.

Ooo.. and the red is not the original paint.

I think I sold the frame for £15 a few years ago...

£300?... Best of luck with the sale.

wharry: thanks for your smarmy reply. That was very helpful but more than anything it is always entertaining seing some know it all looser making themselves feel good by posting derogatory comment about technical stuff. Just so sad. The bike just sold for £320 by the way so it's no longer available.

Midlife: forks are probably one of the nicer details on the bike, but they aren't original in any way unfortunately. Kinda wanted to keep them for another bike but needed cash and had nothing else suitable to put on there.

Might be nice forks Shaun but I'm not convinced they're the originals - I did PM the OP but had no reply.

Peter Cobb was a great and underrated framebuilder but he never managed to perfect the"vibrant"top tube!

I'm worried that someone may have paid £320 for it...there are unscrupulous sellers and very ignorant buyers (paying too much for tat and not recognising quality either) - but then I've said this before and nothing has changed.

Bears ill for the future of the classic bike.
