ALAN frameset info reqd....

Hi all,

Just picked up what I think is an ALAN framed bike - its in pretty good shape overall.

I know that some of the early ALANs had problems with their forks - probably why they've been changed - anyone have an idea on what make the forks are? They have an embossed "penny farthing" on the fork crown and are in Vitus 788.

Only identifier I can find is a serial number on the bottom bracket - 001926.

Cheers D.

Doesn't look like an ALAN frame to my eyes but could be wrong, there were other manufacturers of aluminium screwed / bonded frames though.

Nope, doesn't look like an ALAN to me either Shaun.

ALAN forks weren't a problem it is the headset tube that tends to cracks if the headset is poorly fitted, however some Vitus aluminium forks did have a problem as far as I remember

Here's a pic of my early ALAN with the bolted on seat stays for comparison..

Re:

Hi all, thanks for your input.

Comparing Midlifes Alan - there are similarities - bulbous top on seat tube lug, rear lugs and brake bridge bolts.

My initial thoughts were very early Alan; in the meantime I'll clean her up and see if anything else crops up.

Any idea on the forks?

Re:

Hi all,

Have finally tracked it down - apparantly its a CMP from Lyon, France.

These were made from around 1975 to 1980 - this particular one is most likely from 1977 - so quite old. They have a connection with the later TVT frames.

Being a French bike most of the info I found was from French retrobike equivelant - Tontonvelo.com

Also this - http://anciensveloslyonnais.weebly.com/ ... e-cmp.html

Thinking of stripping the gold anodised finish as it has lots of small scratches - any thoughts?

Cheers, D
