AL CARTER mountain bikes

My old man dropped this off at the weekend!

I got this bike secondhand from a lad in the village when I was about 16, rode it a lot until I was at uni in the mid 00s, then road cycling led me down the clean tarmac path and it hung in my dad's shed ever since.
I'd knackered the crank so he put on this old road crank to pootle about on.

I haven't had time to clean and fully assess it yet - but I guess I would like to ask if it's worth restoring as a basic rider? My road knowledge is pretty good but I know next to nothing about mountain bikes, vintage or otherwise! 🤭
I understand this is obsolete, and not any kind of desirable collectors item, but it has personal history for me and the E-stay frame is funky.

Any more you good folks can tell me about Townsend/Al Carter and how they fit into this period of MTB history would also be interesting!
