Advice Needed. Rock Shox SID's 1998 Oil change

Morning All,

Can you help me out, i serviced my pair of SID's 1998 yesterday, and i put in 10w motorbike oil in, (only oil i had in the garage) in the manual it state to use 15w Rock shox oil. should i have any problems with putting 10w in?

In 1998 SIDs I think the oil is just there for lubricating the bushes. Oil weight would only really be an issue if it's an open bath damping system like, for example, in most Marzocchi forks.
SIDs use a sealed damping cartridge so I can't see there being any real issue, apart from longevity perhaps.

time for a thread hi-jack I have SID carbon crown forks that the damping unit does not seem to work well. Usually the damping is adjsuted o nthe right leght by truning an adjuster at the bottom (the outers have lable to this effect but the outers are not the original).


On my fork, there is a bolt instead of the adjuster - I removed the bolt and it is a blind hole to keep the lowers in place so no adjustment but there is an air valve on the top of the RH leg ( this is NOT the postive air chamber whcih is in the LH leg).


anyone know anyting about this fork? I did take them apart and as ^^^ said, there is a dmaper unit that did resist movemet so does some dampling ins the RH leg but I guess my question is how can I adjsut the damping or check if the damper unit is past its best?
