Not decided what to do with it yet..
The early Avalanches seem to have come with the 'bologna' rigid fork, or maybe Rockshox. I don't think a catalogue specific build is my thing, will keep you in mind if the situation changes.

As I don't have a caliper to measure the downtube diameter, could I ask if anyone here knows what the correct size front mech would be for this frame.

I could be mistaken, but I'm sure that's what my Zaskar uses and the frames are very similar. If it takes a 26.8, 27.0 or 27.2 seatpost then a 31.8 front mech should be right.

I thought I'd be able to work it out from the circumference of the downtube but I lost faith in that method.. It was an ancient tape measure and the best figure I could get was 104mm.. Judicious use of Pi got me some random 33.something diameter.. A 31.8 diameter = 100mm circumference, which seems much more like it..
