Absolutely, it was used on many of the better quality motorcycle frames (like the Norton International) of the period and in the late 1960s/70s used by the premier racing motorcycle framebuilder Rob North - with huge successes here in the UK and in the US.

And by the Rickman Brothers of course, and in Formula One (when the cars were pretty and the racing was all about drivers and not about"strategy").

Battle of Britain and the film outstanding. Said in German in the film and was said at the time. "Give me a squadron of Spitfires" Said to the fat bloke in the white uniform can't remember his name from the top of my head.

The MK9 was the top dog when it went in to service, i think in 44, and out performed the BF109 in all areas.

A lovely site seeing those old fighters flying overhead and that lovely sound that emanates from the Merlin engine.

Was at an air show near Copenhagen a few years ago when they flew one over.... Lump, throat, tissues anyone?

Shame my kids were too young to appreciate it.

They flew a Lancaster over Odense the other week but I missed it. 4 Merlins would just have been too much for me though, so probably just as well....

They do evoke the old emotions. The film Battle of Britain is one of my favorite films and i'm holding back the emotions every time i watch it. It's not as if i was there as i'm only in my 30's. LOL

Only two flying Lancasters in the World, and one of them based near me (at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight), I often see the Lancaster literally flying over the garden.

Long time ago now but also saw the Flying Fortress (B 17) when they were making"Memphis Belle"in Lincolnshire - flying sequences filmed at Binbrook.

Can I take it you've been to East Kirkby & seen the Panton brothers Lancaster??
You can, if you pay the additiona charge, sit in it whilst it taxies!!

Plus, the sound of those 4 Merlins being fired up when you're only a wings length from them is wonderful

East Kirkby is but a short (and excellent) bicycle ride for me, especially dramatic are the nighttime taxi runs.

There I was, just a few minutes ago mowing grass at the back of the house, and I hear the distant slightly off beat sound of a Merlin.

Despite the fact that we all love the sound of a Merlin in the air, have you heard any of the documentary clips when the presenter is talking whilst in flight? (ie; James May in 'Toy Stories')
Presumably that's mainly due to the rigid mounting

, especially dramatic are the nighttime taxi runs

Only been there for a day-time run, but was lucky enough fo it to be a day when the Spitfire was up as well
