Abbey bikes?

Mad372

Retro Newbie
Picked up this 80s looking bike locally. It’s an Abbey can’t seem to find anything about them. Seems hardly used with one owner from new. S.R. Roots thumbshifters and front derailleur. Polygon brakes. I’ve cleaned it up added some modern tyres, new grips & pedals. Anyone have any info about this brand?
Thanks

FCUK Me....

Never thought id see one, i almost thought it was little more than a reoccurring dream from my childhood...

Myself and my father bought two as new examples second hand, that a fella kept stored, stood up on there back wheels in his outside coal shed when i was a kid...

All i can remember was he gave £80 for the pair, and i couldn't believe i finally had a mountain bike, i didn't have it long, but the bug had caught on, it did its job, it started a revolution in my house, that has never ended.

Glad I’ve brought back some good memories for you.

I dont think the one i rode was even as good as this one.

If you look at the 80s Peugeot range, and look for the model in the same colours and decal style as this one, im sure you will have an accurate age for it.

ALways reminded me of a Peugeot Crazy Horse. Uk version was white, French in silver or both i dont know... :?

Re:

I thought it was a Peugeot when I first saw it for sale. The decals are very similar. Probably not by accident I imagine !

Re:

Wow! I had an Abbey Titan, in silver, circa 1987, it was 20” wheel if I recall with 5 or 6 indexed gears. I progressed to a Bacini (crap) then Muddy Fox Courier (purple / white) which was the start of mountain biking for me!

I raced the Abbey in a Cub Scout race around a quarry, I didn’t do very well.

Re:

Looking at Peugeot’s, it looks very much like a copy of a mid-eighties Crazy Horse.

I have a suspicion that Abbey might have a connection to the Falcon Empire located in Brigg Lincolnshire. A quick trawl showed a mixte frame roadbike on sale in Brigg, Lincolnshire made by Abbey. Possibly pure coincidence but.........................
