abandoned GT Tequesta

moved in to the new place almost three weeks ago noticed an old bike coved in dust with the rear wheel off and lay beside it gave it no more thought, came in from the supermarket one day and spotted the bike again i felt sorry for it so had a closer look and realised someone had also nicked the seat with the post and taken the quick release from the rear wheel so i decided to ask around and see if the owner wanted to move it on but after over two weeks of going door to door leaving a note on the bike and asking everyone that walked by i was told the owner had moved away and left the bike behind so here you go

i got the bike up to the apartment and gave a cheeky wash in the bath whilst the misses was away at a conference

it was in a pretty bad way dirt wise and spotted with rust especially the bars

i took the wheels off stripped them down and scrubbed them with a scouring pad and some fairy liquid, then gave the frame a quick spray with the shower on full heat and that brings me to here

got a quick release from a mate at the local bike shop so i can at least keep the rear wheel on whilst i clean and strip it slowly, got a mate coming over tommorow with some tyres some tubes and a bag full of bits to get her rolling.

Much as I love reading build threads about high-end, well-loved bikes, stuff like this ^^^ is fantastic. Even most 'serious' modern MTBers would probably have just ignored it, or skipped it, but it's a perfectly decent bit of steel that will ride perfectly after some mild fettling. I suspect there's not too many 'drizzle' paint-jobs left anymore, either.

I have been looking for an 18" 1992 Tequesta for ages - see my signature for the 16" I did up but it ended up being too small for me.
I had an 18" one in 1992 and really really want to replace it. If you ever consider selling it can you please let me know?
They ride really nicely by the way. Thanks for sharing.

cheers guys i cant put it down its my new toy so i did a bit more removed the grips they were knackered and i wanted to sort the rust out, turns out the ends of the bars were slightly crimped and bent from when the horns were fitted so i stripped it all down and sanded it back to bare metal.

couldnt straighten the bends in the ends so decided to make myself a narrow set of bars for now until i can get a nice lightweight set, thought i might as well make the best use i could of the apartment whist the misses was away and made a real mans spray booth in the bathroom.

bars shortened with first coat of primer you just cant beat pikey diy, right im off to clean it all up before she gets home.
