Aargh - they are re-inventing the wheel A G A I N

Read that article a couple of days ago, it occurred to me that there are no sidewalls on these airless "tyres" that would prevent stones or other debris getting in amongst the multitude of spokes. As can be seen in pics the spokes flex a bit just like the sidewalls of proper tyres, what is going to happen as they flex against a stone/hard debris? Can foresee several spoke failures due to wear. Not exactly impossible on our crappy roads. Another consideration is the "tyre" being out of balance with a stone jammed inside.

That was my first thought. Fine on a swept surface. Back to the drawing board.




They are obsessed with gravelling the roads around here, and I shudder at the thought. Not to mention when the bod from village uses the strimmer to cut the grass and invariably my car get the brunt of the grass cuttings. Life would be too short trying to clean that shit and stop moss forming on the inside. Wonder if there is any testing with small mammals too?

I spent so long looking at the design and construction of that wheel, I didn't notice the dirty great rifle strapped to the top tube.
I wonder if it could be fired from that position. You wouldn't want a hot cartridge flying out into your wedding tackle though.

That's alright, the cases are not hot when they come out.
The bike would benefit from a rack and a gunner sitting on it to operate the rifle.

Any retrobikers fancy strapping some paintball markers in this manner and having a wee shootout?

Not sure exactly but it's a chunk less than tubes, noticeably so.

I might have to try it...random question but does it effect how the wheel spins...like does it affect the balance of a wheel? Or is it runny enough that centrifugal force sorts that out!?

No, not at all, just don't put too much in! I run mine with around 100/120ml of fluid. Stans is good.
