A Very British Klunker

Tyre fitted to back wheel, by god it's tightšŸ˜² 20220714_200244.jpg

Trouble is the little suntour nut that slots into the dropout is preventing the wheel from slotting back in the dropout by about 3mm which would give so much more clearance. 20220714_200347.jpg
So need to take the nut and give it a little fettle to allow the axle nut to seat against it.
Any idea's what I should put in the other dropout I can just crank up the grip nuts but would prefer to fill it with something.

loose the nut. drill and tap the drop out.

or just drill a hole in the dropout further back

There is already a threaded hole to try and mount your derailleur. The hole should be at the back or a little forward of the back of the drops. There is a chance that it might work, you got nothing to loose. Perhaps you could bolt a derailleur mount to that hole, or make one. Iā€™ve welded mounts on to drops but your frame paint there would be ruined. I always build my klunkers without paint. I fix problems that I notice as they arise, test beat them to make sure all is ok and then disassemble them for paint.

I'll have a go, all paint can be touched up with an airbrush so not too worried

Here is a tool that can dimple chain stays so you can fit larger tires. Itā€™s extreemly difficult to dimple chromo tubing but klunker tubing is easy to dimple. An auto manifold expander could probably also be made to work. I have made dimpling tools by welding a half pipe on one side of vice grips and a short piece of rod on the other. Itā€™s a reverse vice grip, instead of clamping, it expands. 001CC71C-C9D9-4684-91BE-B775CF815AF8.jpeg

Can't remember where I found this and it may be fairly common but your thread reminded me of it -- they were positioning the Santa Fe as a 'cool American-style' model for the right-on youth of the day.
