She better not come our way and into Wales then, we regularly have time trails in cars. You aren't supposed to break speed limits and you get penalised for arriving early, but in reality people gun down the lanes and stop before the checkpoints
They are held in the dead of night though and totally legal and above board.

I find this event a little disturbing. Are we cyclists allowed to use the roads just like any other traveler, or are we limited to certain objectives. A Sunday ride in my auto is no different that a group of cyclists enjoying riding. Big deal if it is a time trial or not. It is my right to use the roads period.

In Califoria, cyclists have "Right of Way", but still have to obey every vehicular law, including having headlights and tailights. Sometimes we enjoy purpose built bike lanes, but that still does not prevent boneheads from running us down. Here in Califoria, we actually encourage cycling.

ive marshalled these a couple of times, through most of the routes you wouldnt be able to break 60mph on the single lane windy county lanes.

And I don't see anybody - including the letter from the woman, that started this thread suggesting that cyclists don't have a right to use the road.

But the time trial aspect is a big deal - when some cyclists compete like that, they appear to lose any consideration, observation or awareness that other traffic is there. That is what she wrote - and I agree with - nothing else.

Go back and actually read her letter again, I don't see one comment, or suggestion that she's unwilling or unhappy about sharing the road with cyclists using the road in general - just the behaviour of some whilst they're competing in time trials.

Is it your contention that she's making it up, then?

I used to regularly commute over some stretches of road (not the A1), and early evening on weekdays (I want to think it was Thursday evenings...) time trials were run on rural roads, 50 and 60mph speed limits.

I regularly experienced the things she was complaining about in her letter, so I empathise with it - even accepting me being a cyclist and all. So I'm inclined to believe she's not making it up, since I regularly experienced very similar behaviour.

Interestingly today I have been approached by an individual on a Due care and attention charge. He is pleading guilty to the charge and everything is quite straightforward until I read the statements.

The Police are suggesting that he was attempting to induce another car to race....This is really bad news, the Mags will crucify him if they believe it.

He denied it at the time and we may have to go the route of a Newton hearing in court to have the evidence omitted if we can prove the allegation is that and unfounded.

Back to cyclists and time trials and RACING !!!! :roll: TT's seem to already enjoy a privilidge others road users are'nt afforded.

An earlier poster made a comment that the TT's are staged to prevent the racing perception. Fine However the next part of the post a quote from a regulatory body uses the word 'racing'.
