Just borrowed a copy of this from a friend. It is apparently critically acclaimed but the plot summary on Wikipedia is horriffic. Pretty much the works when it comes to smashing the most gruesome of taboos.

Read at your peril if you want. I can hande a good horror film, SAW is (s)awesome (), but this makes SAW sound like it was made by Disney or something!

Would you watch it, or would you hand it back and just admit that it is just too far? Its going to be a tough one to sit through.

For those who are brave enough to have a read:

chid rape? you should be shot just for having a copy. burn it dont watch it ffs

This bit was cut from the final dvd release. I would have flat refused to watch it if it hadn't been. Whats left is bad enough though.

Well now you know what it's about - why put yourself through it?

I'm not into censorship - but why anyone might feel the need to make something like this is just beyond me. Even discussing it in this thread is giving it more attention than it deserves and is obviously desperate for.

Right, I know that the subject matter in this film is controversial, but I watched it anyway. Bear in mind please that I have borrowed a version that has been passed by the BBFC as an 18 rated film and suitable for audiences of that age and over before casting a judgement of me as being a sinister character!!

So, is it as bad as the synopsis on the Wikipedia? In short, its not actually. The plot summary on there is about the original which is way, way more graphic than the UK release. There are two 'controversial' moments that are completely implied and not shown in a graphical manner. Combined, these two moments last about 30 seconds all told, though many would consider this too much. I would agree had it been anything more than implied. The original would have been far too much, as was obviously thought by the BBFC. I also think that these implied scenes are actually a legitimate part of developing the story.

As a film, it harks of a hostel-esque style plot. Its actually a good film in its UK release state, but most definitley not for the faint hearted or easily offended. If a horror film is your cup of tea, it is worth a watch.

if I'm honest, I was expecting to be more offended by this film than I was, which is quite relieving.

I think something a little more light hearted for my next film is in order!!

The bbfc are a bit of a joke to be fair, i mean i understand they serve a purpose but some of the stuff they have banned over the years is ridiculous.

The texas chainsaw massacres from what i remember aren't even that gruesome, well not by modern standards...there are computer games with far worse going on than those films. The exorcist was only banned because of the scene where the little girl masturbates with the crucifix, but nowadays it doesn't even cause a stir.

I think if that film were released uncut at the cinemas very few people would even bother to go see it, look at the human caterpillar that was pretty messed up and in fact it didn't make enough money to profit after production costs.

If I'm honest, there isn't much cliche horror about it, its an assault on the morals with added gore to spice things up. It adds to its offensive arsenal in the fact that, sadly, things like this do happen, hence its controversy.

in a way it is a good film, but not a regular watcher.
