A Period (In)correct Bike Project

Hi everyone,

I've finished my last exam yesterday, so I tought today would be the perfect moment to launch a new long-term bike builiding project (in these cold winter days) BUT I really wanted to do something different this time, something I haven't done before (like building bikes up with all its original parts etc.) Then I came up with this rather strange but original idea IMO (when I was lying in my bed and could not sleep because I had to much stress for the upcoming exam)

The main idea/goal =

To build a period 'incorrect' bike by using parts of 5 different decades matched/harmonized with each other..into a nice looking and enjoyable ride for myself..

Conditions

I. Use bikeparts of 5 different decades [70ies, 80ies, 90ies, nillies, 10ies (=new ones) ]

II. Deadline of 50 weeks to finish the bike

III. With a budget of 500 euro (or approx. £420)

IV. Stay under 9,6 kg total weight

V. Use only parts in 3 (main) colours (Silver, Black and Grey)

And we're off!!

(Any tips/offers on parts or thoughts about the project are highly appriciated)

PART(S) I- I will be using is this late 70ies / early 80ies Moser frame (size 56; Im used to 57-59 frames but I tought it could lose some weight with a slightly smaller frame and a long seatpost )
and (unknown) S-stamped fork (both repsrayed and Frame was fitted with Diamant Decals. Probably in the 90ies): http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... frame+fork

WEIGHT FORK = 0,718kg
WEIGHT FRAME = 2,081kg

WEIGHT TOGETHER= 2,799kg
(Good weight for a late 1970's/ early 1980's f&f IMO; Does anyone know which year the first Moser bike was released??? Can't find it on the net)

-> I've ordered a new scale online to weigh more accurate (up to 1g )

PART II- probably this late 80ies/ early 90ies Campagnolo Athena Rear Derailleur. Might have to replace jockey wheels..

WEIGHT= 0,253kg

PART III -ordered this (new,2011) Two-Bolt Deda Elementi RS 01 seatpost,

PRICE= €15,95
WEIGHT = the Deda sites says 333g for the 31,6mm-version, so it wil be approx 300g, scale says 0,290kg

I thinks the fact that it is two-bolt gives it a kinda of retro campagnolo look..:http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=657E68A0-022C-4D64-9617-29856A826F2C&Enum=105&AbsPos=25 And it fits very well with the black 3ttt you can find below.. I hope at least..

PART IV

Got a Black 84 (80ies) 3ttt stem in VGC, but the plastic cap is that covers the bolt is missing
the guy who sold it to me said it was in excellent shape, which it is.. But didnt tell me the cap was missing. Its quite important for this stem because the bolt is really low placed in the stem. so might have to look for another one..

(Unless someone can help me out here??)

WEIGHT= velobase says approx. 275g, scale says 303 grams because it is a stem with 120mm reach

PRICE= €18 (postage included)

PART V

Will match the above displayed (or possibly an other) black 3ttt stem with silver 70ies 3ttt Competizione handlebars.. Bought it in a lot with 6 other bars (different qualities/condition/brands/types)

So its hard to put a price on it.. will have to figure out how I can state a price..

WEIGHT= Velobase tells me approx. 340 g, scale says: 327g
PRICE= ?€10?

At this tempo I will be ready in 5 weeks
Especially The budget will be gone in 5 weeks
And the weight is also starting to form an issue....

I Will have to look for some budget light weight wheels I guess

And will it be possible to keep it all Italian?

Bought a simple (no-name) Cr-Mo seatbolt...

Interesting idea There will be purists turning in their graves all over the rb world but at the end of the day it's what YOU make it that counts.
be interesting to see how it all comes together, the main thing will be making the different decades gel together in a seamless manner.. looks like youve got it set out right in your head. look forward to seeing it materialise on the bike!

I've got some main ideas in my head yes... But still have to work out a lot of details and problems. Wheels and chainset is not gonna be an easy choice, because it has to match with the rest of the bike but can't be too expensive or heavy.. Still haven't decided which speed Im going for.. 5/6/7/8 (The rear spacing is only 125mm)

PART VII

For Tires Ive ordered a pair of these 'Challenge Open Elite Lights':

PRICE = 2x €14,95 = €29,90 ('sale of the month' at my online bikeshop)
WEIGHT= Claimed 200g, so 400g for the pair, scale says 460g

PART(S) VIII

A little Quiz about the 3different Inner tubes I have:

"Which tube is lightest???":

1)Michelin AirComp Ultra-Light - 700mm Inner Tube - 18-23C (Presta)

PRICE= €3,50
WEIGHT= 78g

2) Wolber Inner Tube

PRICE= It says €11,5 on the box but I actually got it for FREE of a guy of who I bought a road bike for €60
WEIGHT= Claimed 65g, actual 77g

3) Cheap set of 2 inner tubes from decathlon

PRICE= €2,95 for the set or €1,475 each
WEIGHT= 96g

but not sure if I will be using it for this project:
