A tongue in cheek vent your spleen here, why do you not like a specific brand or model or component...

I dont want any arguments, just why you dont like them. If you want to argue, start your own thread as to why you do like something

All GT's (except the Zaskar)

On the steel frames, that extra triangle seems to act like a pivot making the back end wobblier than a Kirk Revolution... Then theres the lower alu models, jeeeze! Bloody things are like riding concrete, no life in them whatsoever.

Kona's

They are lovely to look at, sure, but again and again and again and again? Like the MGB GT is to the classic car world, they are a cheap and easy way back into the retro scene but, Konas! Phaaasaands of 'em!

Ringle

Definitely garage queen stuff, it fades, it cracks and it only looks good on a Yeti, hidden from direct sunlight and never, ever ridden...

Klein Klien Kline

If ever there was a more contentious brand of bicycle, forever causing arguments, trans Atlantic feuds and international nit picking contests. Kinda puts one off a brand...

Rock Shox MAG20/21

Mine never worked! Either they spurted oil back in my face or they sagged straight to the end stops. Could never get the buggers right. then there was the flaky paint, corrosion, threaded brake studs and finally the flex - 'steering to the left, Sir? Book an appointment, we can fit you in a week Tuesday'.

Spleen vented.

For now. ;)

For me the old LX levers made of folded plate & the red DX version should be erased from existence and the history books.

Yeti grips, with yeti moulded into them in big square characters, never have I had so many blisters.

Mavic 517's, what a step back backwards from 217's.

Badly setup bikes, especially the cassette clearance adjuster screw on rear mechs that acts on the tab of the dropout, this should not be screwed all the way in to increse chain tension you muppets!

middleburn cranks (under engineered shite) i jumped off a 3 step flight on a chute and the l/h crank snapped clean off at the taper (it was bitd and the crank was new and torqued correctly onto a xt bb. never ever broke a shimano one.

full suss downhillers being used for trail (never has it been so easy for disposable income nobs to justify why they dont play badminton anymore. look at me on my trek fuel 9.9 and full carbon lid on the back of my audi a4 company car going to the trail center to stick my 4 grand bike outside the caff and drink some coffee with my sixsixone pads on, no mud mind)

brev fixies (because i really really want the pimp one i tried and cant afford in evans)

people who say retarded rhetorical crap like 'you could buy a car for that!'

3dv...... its PURPLE ffs
bitter? you bet :D

Six cheap bikes

Plenty of people have six cheap bikes and then moan they could never afford something nice. I'll caveat this for people that *dont* moan about not being able to afford something nice

Catalogue builds

Who actually rode a catalogue bike for more than 3 weeks after purchase back in the day

Retro holism

the market that means second hand cassettes now cost MORE than very nice new ones (see SRAM PG850 on CRC)

Resprays

seriously, if the paint isnt hanging off in lumps...

Consciously obscure stuff

Who had heard of steve potts in 1996?

Form over function

make your bike WORK for where you ride. mine has modern tyres, forks etc.

The canti hanger rule

basically an extenstion of the above. i LIKE v-brakes and as soon as i could afford them back in the day i bought them

and breathe.......

GROUPSET SNOBS, people who look down on groupsets like stx lx and the like. So what if it isnt xt/xtr, the improvements trickle down eventually this years xtr is nexts years xt and so on. Sure some of it may not look as nice, be a gram or two heavier but it all works well if set up correctly. Better to have bargain bucket and know what to do with it rather than be all the gear no idea.

i've had every groupset within reason, and i definitely find LX/XT easier to set up and keep set up than the lower stuff.

Ah but you cut your teeth on lower end stuff, if its set up correctly first time ok after a week or so it may need tickling to account for cable stretch but then its usually fine for a good while.

That covered most of my pet hates.

I have to go with LGF that Kleins have gone too far the way of the supermodels in terms of being over valued and everywhere, though Kleins generally ride as well as they look.

People who ride two ton downhill bikes around, who never use them in anger.

Single speed converts who seem to think their epiphany overrides everyone else's experience.

Weight weenies who take it too far.

Cyclists who think that all car users are automatically cycle haters.

Ricky Gervais.

...and IDIOTS who post an answer without reading the OPs initial post first, and totally misconstrue the thread.

Great thread LGF, think you and the others have summed it up but I'd add:

'Different' Handlebar configurations
Can't stand bull moose bars, drop bars (on mtb's), moustache bars, et al. Don't like bar ends, just flats or a slight riser bar only please.

Serial Retro Bike Builders
Contentious one, but why spend a load of time, effort and money to assemble some particular configuration of bike, just to decide that you have too many bikes and sell / split it again.
