A Netflix build special… (JMC 1995 Specialized M2)

Then in May 2022, as is always the way, when you least expect it, you’re looking for one thing you find another…

From a shop in Bristol, who said they had been locked in a dark garage on a KHS for 25 years.

Some ‘non-cracked’ clear X-ray 800 and with the correct original yellow stickers that are so hard to reproduce, booom, like the ‘wolf of wall street’ I closed the deal in seconds for 50p and went out to celebrate 🍾

Just need to swap my green shark bites onto them.

June 2022. So we are up to date. There are a couple of things in the post now that might even arrive this morning thanks to @Once A Hero

You’ll have to wait and see, got to leave the series on a cliff hanger, who knows you might have to wait for a summer special or xmas movie for the follow up. There are some clues in the small print.

I’ll leave you with the build spec spreadsheet as the credits and all the amazing places the parts came from across 4 continents of the world 🌍

I’d like to thank my family and friends, the producer and all the film crew and most of all, you the fans for making this possible ! 👏🎬 🏆

ps- my next build thread will be in the style of Twitter or TickTock, 240 characters and straight to the click bait !

(Green means pretty sure it’s correct, amber/orange means it’s not quite a match, yet !!)

Weight is currently 25.64lbs

On went the stock wheels (the 121 ceramics are still waiting for the correct JMC hubs) and down the LBS she went today to have her bottom bracket measured up and swapped out.

Turns out, the BB does seem to be a bit weird as per @Spudly experience. It was not the size I thought it should be.

She ended up with ’for now’ a new UN-300 73mm shell with a 113mm spindle. They also had to use 3x 1mm spacers to bring the drive side BB cup out a little for better chain ring alignment. Otherwise the chain was catching/riding up on the middle chain ring in certain rear gears due to the off camber. The chain is a new Shimano HG-71 (112 links) just to index the gears and make sure all was working correct, but surely the 8 speed chains weren’t thinner back then! But she works tidy now.

I’ve no idea what XTR or Spesh Ti BB size she would have been originally then. I can’t find any UN-90 in that size (73mm x 115mm might be closest) or so the cup spacers aren’t needed.

I’d be interested to know what size square taper BB others with 1995 M2s have used ?

But she was looking mint now and rideable again. The Hugi freewheel hub was crackling like a Gatling gun. Just need to cable up and fine tune the brakes now ready for some coaster wheelies on a sunny wknd.

Soooooo nearly there!

Just had a three or four page catch-up and enjoyed every minute mate.

Get those brakes cabled up already!

We'll be needing video of a drifter through your local rustic farm gate IMMEDIATELY!

PS. This thread is making me feel all kinds of guilty/lazy for not going the whole hog with mine.

Hell, it's not even an actual bike currently!

This weeks purchases:
Couple of new bits in the post again, one coming from Singapore (collection only !!) the other from Canada. One of which, no other JMC replica bike has ever had on it, as best I can tell !! …all will be revealed in good time.

This weeks chores:
Putting on the correct colour titanium chain ring crank bolts, lining up the JMC decals in silver as per the original Dirt cover shot (they are black font on the original bike now today), fresh NOS Dia-Compe yoke cables for mint brake alignment and one set of kool stop eagle 2 🦅 pads, but then downed tools before doing the rear set, as couldn’t resist catching the sunset this eve…
