I'm in the early stages of a cull but the usual affliction of not wanting to part is strong. Now some of these bikes I haven't ridden in a long time and some are incomplete but I feel the need to give them one last whirl. Some would even need putting back together before taking apart again and of course doing so isn't really going to help me get rid is it  Anyway anyone else suffer from this? Is it daft? Or am I with fellow hoarders?

Re:

I often find myself seeing something I really like the look of and wanting to buy it . Then I think of what I have , 8 bikes , all built and being unable to part with any of them . Mainly as I get attached , for one reason or another . I really have run out of space for more now , so number 9 build is definitely the last . I hope

Re:

I have bought and sold since this affliction of retro collecting struck, but like Mike I am now seriously running out of room and also running out of bikes that I will happily part with.

That said, if a DL Concept '90 came up at the right price, then one of the retro roadies would have to go.... but which one?

In my case it's all about duplication, I ride all my bikes, but see little point in having two that ride the same, or that I do not get on with, hence a DeKerf replaced a Yates and in an odd turnaround a (different) Yates superseded a (different) DeKerf.

If one steps back from the specifics of the here-and-now and value the pastime as a whole, it starts to make more sense. By focusing on single bikes at moments of doubt and trying perhaps to rate their value (to yourself), it can seem fleetingly rational. As lgf demonstrates, whatever you move on, regardless of its former place in your heart and collection, more will come along to tempt you to continue the fettling... and that's what is counting!

Re:

I'm on board with the difficult to part with feelings. Yet at the same time am in the middle of the tedious task of thinning some things to acquire others. It is hard to let go of certain items, even if not being used with no plans of use and truly no intention of use. (A hoarder?)

Bought a Kula, now removing a different Kula. Parting a Zaskar to aid in a modern bike.
Etc. Etc.

Basically I'm at the point of not needing to build another garage queen, but focusing much more on actually getting use from the machines built.

That said if the perfect unicorn sporting a nice set of hens teeth comes through town my interest would definitely be sparked.

Get rid of them all, nothing good will come of collecting old bikes.

I don't know what's wrong with the world.

Sorry! the wife was watching.

Keep them all, who cares if you ever ride them? you can clean them and sit in your shed with a brew and feel contentment at the fact you are the Don and have awesome bikes.... :-)

Focus, upgrade, expend, accommodate.

Just got rid of a couple. Missing them alr- oh look, another project!

Its hard to part.

Agree with Neil though, trying to have a fleet of bikes that are different, makes it a little easier. All my builds end up the same else and then I struggle to choose which to have.
