I've run a Deda one for 10 years on my tourer (as a stem converter) with no slippage. It's different in that it has a wedge type lock not an expander.
However with expander types I guess it usually only ever get used to tension an ahead headset, then the stem clamps to the steerer and locks. Clearly they are not up to normal steering loads.
I'm seriously relieved that you identified the problem early and avoided a horrible surprise.
