Too early for me to go into detail, but max backbone (i think) is the rear seat stay, the bridge looks to be cnc'd and the tubing seems more substantial than the earlier spec fsrs'...plus you get a proper hole to mount the elusive sharkfin disc adapter
Just been out there weighing it and forgot to look at the rear bridge, etc!
Using my tried and tested method of accurate bathroom scales stood on a piece of board, weighing myself then myself holding the bike.... ....it's 28 1/2lbs. Not too bad I suppose, bearing in mind the Bombers weigh a ton and the wheels aren't the lightest.
Certainly would look to make some weight savings over time, but unless it rides like a 'heavy' bike, which it doesn't seem to, I can't see the point in worrying about it. SID's and XTR wheels would probably drop 3 or maybe more lbs off of that weight, but at what monetary cost, and I'm always skint!
Nice job Kaz
Always been an Fsr fan , as you say weight loss would be easy and makes a real difference , light wheels and tyres especially .
I think the full bounce helps you get away with lighter than usual .
Paul
The tyres are super light folding Spesh Pro jobs...but they were crap in the mud!
But I did have a laugh, quite testing out there today especially as I was still nursing a very sore back. Which I kind of accidentally forgot about.... The only thing I would change if I could would be the grin factor, my bloody face aches sooooo much now!
Can't see me altering anything at all any time soon, for the amount I will actually use it in anger, it's fine and rides like a really light bike. I even got it back up the notorious 'One Mile Hill' with 2 gears to spare, the lock out on the rear shock actually worked too! I love it, I really do. Been a long time coming, a full sus that actually works and isn't hanging!!
I'm impressed as i've never really been a big fan of Specialzed FSR's but yours seems to have plenty of Character which i've grown a liking to and it also seems very impressive on the ride so i'd certainly say it was a keeper and as for the weight i'd say it was quite good when you think about it their's alot of bike there for only 28 1/2 pounds .
Shock seems to be leaking air, all be it slowly, and there is an inevitable oil slick if the air canister goes over the dent in the shock body, but hey....as I say, for the amount I will actually use an off road bike....
It may be possible to fill the dent with some Chemical Metal ( plastic padding ) and leave it just a tad proud of the dent before sanding smooth with some 1500 grade wet n dry sand paper then paint just the filled area with some silver paint then when dry give a light sanding to just smooth it off and with luck it should slow the leak even more but you never know it may just cure it for a short while but at least whether your on or off road your enjoying the bike and that's the important thing ..
