Yes, over the top pricewise, it's not even one of the higher end Saracens. They were damn fine steel bikes in the late 80s/90s. I picked up a pristine condition Saracen ProTrax SE that was the top of the 'Sport' range (below the higher end Kilis), and it only cost £120. It was a pretty good deal though.

Re:

In my experience yes. I found a 531 85 conquest very planted, a bit of brute but much less agile, slower, a handful really

The 87 trekker is pretty much perfect, so well balanced it's heft is unnoticed, handy bail out gear, uu, pump peg, in line water bottle bosses, unbustible powder coat and the start of the cool graphics

By 88, 89, 90 the bikes were basically ahead of their time, in terms of design and colour and are probably best in class in their peer group.

But what's so special about 87s is that its the link to the old fashioned conquests/Evans and what was about to come flying through in to the zeitgeist.

After this little golden patch I think the brand went downhill, despite still producing some fine machines, just not with quite the same magic

Thanks so much for the info! I have an 84 trek 830 which is slightly too small for me and i have been looking into old Saracen Conquests and Overbury's Thanks again!

Don't let me put you off mind, the pre pioneer overburys and the conquests are still cool machines!

I just dig this 87 sary as it's a little window into a moment in time when basically anything was possible!
