A barn find at last

Indeed, it's just gas pipe. More surprised at how untouched it is. Having trouble uploading images from my phone to this laptop?

Cracking find . It has put a smile on two faces in its time . First when it was given as maybe a Birthday or Christmas present and now your on finding it and cleaning it up . One small piece of social history .
Someone will enjoy it again .

When I sold Holdworthy frames in the 60's I found no evidence of Raleigh type "gaspipe". In fact even the lower price Freddy Grubbs were made of drawn tubing, Reynolds grade A.

You may be able to confirm this by feeling the inside of the seat tube and down tube from the bottom bracket, If seam welded you will feel the seam.

I always thought the cheaper Holdsworthy names were in front of Raleigh Carltons, they spent the cost on better materials rather than acres of chrome.

We can always rely on some to piss on someone's parade as well as Raliegh/Carlton. FFS.

Great find and I for one look forward to seeing more of this.

Re:

Average wage in 1964 UK £16 22 a bike was about getting to work for most and a ride out at the week end . Cost of a CB Coureur £28 14s 14d . A similar Raleigh was about the same price . Hurrah for the working man .

Ps A Freddie Grubb of the time and similar style was cheaper at £26 .!4 s

All price are from Catalogues as of 1964.

Wow! that's class and tbh looks a hell of a lot nicer than i originally imagined it would be  ..

I hope your not going to be afraid to use it mate as that would be a real shame and i can imagine it being admired by other members out on a Retro bike ride including me ;) .

I intend to use it as soon as I get that brake lever clamp, and bar tape. I've plotted a rough ride for a club event next Spring, I'll ride this over the 54 mile course to get it recorded for entrants.
My first ever racer was a Dawes, similar to this but with a lower spec. Looking forward to the memories coming back.

Nice one mate ! , that's a nice size ride by the sound of it and i should imagine it will a very enjoyable and that's a good idea plotting and recording the ride for entrants next year as it will give a good insight for their preparation  .

I use to have one of these dawes bitd which i regret getting rid of ,
