99 Judy SL Lower Bushing Replacement

I have to replace lower bushings on a set of 99 Judy SLs. From what I can see down the lower legs is a 'raised ring' half way down. Does the bush sit on, below or within the raised ring?

Any tips on getting it in position?

Thinking about it, would the raised ring be the lower bushing and the rubber rings be a form of bump stop?

in the outer legs are 2 bushings, one is just under de rubber wipers on top and one is about half the leg.
They are just hanging in there, to get them out you need some good tools and even to get them in, because they need the be on the right hight.

On the bottom of the forks could be some bumper stops, but as far as I know not in the Judy's.

JUDY do have the bumper stops 'Bottom Bumper' in them at the very bottom a few mm thick, rarely do they ever come out and not often you even notice them. A long spoke helps with that.
To get it in position use the tool or make one.
The service manual should have the details in them.

Thanks Guys

I had just about got there, but I appreciate your wisdom. I'll pop bottom bumpers back in and leave bushes well alone!

Oh an if you hit LTS's WWW button on the bottom of his post, navigate to Rock Shox stuff you'll find the manual :D

No. 15 is the Bottom Bumper you may be seeing, it's right at the very bottom and not noticeable. I only noticed it once after servicing a few JUDY's and not realising. I think it was red on this one or they had twisted out, I forget which. I wondered what it was and went had a look in the manual. It's not very obvious from the diagram.

Maybe the later Judy's got the bumpers, I noticed the bumpers in a 98 SID, so maybe they started the bumpers since 98.
I haven't seen the bumpers in 94-97 Judy's (yet).

That's what I thought when I found them, it was some Hydrocoils I noticed them as they are quite large BUT I'm sure when I pulled my 97's apart they also had them AND i'll have to fish around in the 95/6 legs as it is clearly shown in the 96 service manual.

EDIT while typing had to have a look as I had a set near me.
They are in my 95/6's XC look to be red-ish and partly cover the bottom, you can see if you get the light right. You have the hole and another ring then the darker raised area is the bumper.. testes bu a long spoke and it's spongy.

Seems sensible to have ii there or the end of the stanchion would have a heavy clunk when you slam them to the end and you'd probably damage them.
