98 Shimano LX Groupset - NEED ADVICE

Hi there.

I have a 98 (i think) 8 speed LX groupset on my Kona that i use for the daily commute. My local bike shop are re-building my hubs and i want to replace the freehub while i'm at it.

Does anyone know the product code and details of a suitable freehub that will fit, the bike shop seem a little unsure. I want a decent quality part but LX is not essential.

There are more than enough for sale on the internet but i'm not sure which ones are suitable. If you know where to get one, even better!

Thanks, Ben.

lx freehub

 a BIKE shop ought to be able to work that one out.

the hub will have an M-number on it(if shimano) and a simple search from there should provide a result.

without seeing the hub i cant say for sure but, deoreLX 570/580 may be your equipment. if possible and if all your groupset is matched, tell us what code is on them. somewhere on the alloy parts of the mechs will have an M number.

e.g m570. and, see if (mega9) is written on there. this will narrow it down as the previous LX stuff was 8-speed compatible and black and white rather than grey/blue. this will also tell us if you may have deore LX 567 which , is earlier stuff.

get some numbers up and im sure we can help.

;)

It may work out cheaper to replace the whole hub as freehub bodies tend to be expensive if ordering via the shop. The current Deore freehub also fit older M739 hubs, just as an aside BTW...

If your hub is FH-M565 (black) the part number for the freehub body is : 30R 9801.
If its FH-M570 (grey) the part number is : 3BD 9801.
Hope this helps.
