Old School Hero
This is my 97 GT Zaskar Frost Red. Had her from new. Frame was bought early in 98 from Supercycles in Nottingham. they only had 19" left and i really needed an 18", but the price was too good to pass up. came with a Tioga headset which they fitted while i waited, and Kore Stem.
the group-set is XT. I bought the brakes and levers at the Bike Show in the NEC, and the rest of the group from Merlin when they were still based in Ormskirk.
I originally ran a set of Balistics forks until i picked up a set of RC36 Evos at the 99 Bike Show (got a free Marin Holdall too). the RC36's have an alloy steerer. cant remember if they came with this or i bought it.
Wheels were hand built by Dave Hinde in Northwich.
She's been laid up in the shed at my caravan for a few years but i brought her home and rebuilt her. Ive made a few changes at the front end.
Managed to pick up a set of NOS decals from Ebay. Havent put them on yet. just got rid of the old stickers I put on (apart from the Datatag stickers)

The bike always felt a little big but switching to a shorter stem and a riser has improved that. The forks have been serviced, and i may pop it over to Dalby forest to the Pace service centre and ask about a travel upgrade to 90mm.
Im going to use her as my getting around bike, but want to keep her in good shape.
I'll post more pics when i can. I broke my wrist on my modern mtb the other day, so i cant do much right now.
I know im not purist by putting some modern bits on it, but i think they go really well. I am looking out for a set of period XT rapid fires, though. just biding my time till a really good pair come along.
The first pic is after it had been in to get its new headset fitted.
