96' Orange P7 restoration - FINISHED

Re: 96' Orange P7 restoration - here goes

The silver black route could be the way forward....mine currently has the orange decals but maybe the black would suit better...I will wait and see what yours looks like!

Keep up the good work!

This P7 is looking way classy and

And I totally appreciate the notion of taking bikes apart to clean components individually after every ride – it's all part of the fun! As the Mrs says: "oh no, he's fiddling with his bike bits again..."

Re: 96' Orange P7 restoration - here goes

Update:

All dressed in black. Applied the decals tonight, seemed fairly straightforward to do, easier than I thought. Have also mounted the wheels, although not sure whether I'll change the tyres or not, I think something a tad slimmer might look better. I'll be using this bike more on fire tracks and hard trail rather than anything slushy, and technical downhills give me the heebie-jeebies anyway. So I'd prefer something built for trail speed rather than downhill grip.

Starting to look like a bike now. Just got to replace handlebars from it's previous life, re-do the cabling for which I have some silver threaded cable outers, whack on some XTR brake levers (ebay) stick a addle on and sit admiring it for a couple of days while it's still clean.

Re: 96' Orange P7 restoration - here goes

I love the P7 - my favourite Orange.

I bought one recently and turned down the matching F7 forks...doh!

Your's looks amazing - looking forward to seeing it finished.

Hard work nearly always pays off and this is no exception! Looks brilliant. I had a mate who had a 98 Orange 02 (black not cream) and he was also the kind of bloke who took it to pieces after every ride and I suspect, even now, it still lives in his bedroom. Sadly, his wife does not....

Almost there, work stalled a bit waiting for some rubber o-rings to thread onto brake cables before cabling everything together. Bought a 2nd hand XTR V-brake set from eBay which look in excellent condition. The previous ones were a mixture of Shimano and Avid and that will never do. Be ready to rock when they arrive.

What's best to do about frame/decal protection. The frame is currently un-lacquered, I'd have to strip everything down and send it way, which will cost too much. I've also tried helicopter tape on another frame, which, despite claims, is clearly visible and don't look great where you can see the edges. Or just coat the whole lot with turtle wax and get some new decals in a couple of years if necessary, which would be a lot cheaper?

Current condition:

Re: 96' Orange P7 restoration - FINISHED!

Finished at last – for now.
Hope it's up to Retrobike standards.
The squirrel seems to like it anyway
