95 Kona Cindercone<<<update>>>

been a while since i posted but heres an update, Finally decided to have a go at the kona after it took a back seat due to me not having time and hacking about on the proflex......Well i was off work due to an illness but whilst i was on the mend i decided to pass my boredom by rebuilding the cindercone.

As funds are still tight the powder coat has had to wait,so i tackled it myself with(deep breath)a rattle can!! Not my best choice as i feel its a bodge, but im suprised with how well it came out.
Not an exact match but near enough and its a damn sight better than the awful red colour it was sprayed!!.

Its had a polish and the shiny bits are slowly getting a good polish too with autosol to make them shiney and blingy!! lol.

Thanks to acouple of forum members I have managed to source a replacement set of Judys as mine gave up and a freshly powdercoated Velocity stem complete with a set of new decals for the front.

Only issue ive got atm is routing the rear brake cable from the dog collar to the vbrakes. Im either thick or it just cant be done using my current set up,any help or ideas will be appreciated.

Heres how the bike stands now.

Looking very tidy now, spray work doesn't look a bodge to me.

You'll need an adaptor to run v-brakes that goes on the top tube, my mate has one but don't know what it's called. Either that or you could run a full length outer with cable ties or something.

Tyres would be nice too  ;) .

Cheers for the comments, The spray job dont look too bad unless you get really close up to it, Tyres are on now too a pair of Maxxis road ones so i can blast it down the lanes for a while.
Was a nice day so i decided to take the Tufftrax out for a blast instead.......wow i actually forgot how good that bike feels, lol

Awesome build dude!!

Im working on a similar project.

About the V brakes take a look at the cindercone in the 97 kona catalogue . this was the first year they used V brakes, they ran them with out the dog collar. My build is the opposite I have a 97 sindercone with XT cantis and had to get an old dog collar to they would work, just got it to day in fact! :D

pls send a close up of you handy spray action, so far so good.
The Judy are the perfect colour!

The '97 Cinder Cone has a cable stop on the top tube for v-brakes (I have one), this one has no stop at the back end, relying on the dog collar.

Almost finished,Im toying with the idea of sticking cantis back on it or am going to find a frame adapter for the rear brake cable to run the v brakes,The cable tied rear brake cable is a temp thing so i could try it out over the weekend.

feels very nice and smooth :)

its hard to get a decent shot of the spray job,its rough in places as the frame really shouldve been taken back to bear metal but like i say,its a temp thing

Defo go with canti's and I'm being super picky but the stem is the wrong colour, it should be that lovely gold'ish colour.

Yeah I know the stem is the wrong colour and I feel It would look much better if it was the same colour as the forks but it came up in the 4 sale section freshly powder coated and with repro velocity stickers so I just had to have it,

As for cantis, I've got a nicely polished set of dia-compe 986's not doing anything atm :)
