94 Kona Explosif owners

Nice, it looks in much better nick than mine.

What headset is that?

Can't wait to get mine running.

Also what tyres are you using, I quite fancy some fat ones for a bit of suspension. I think I can get away with a 2.5 on the front and 2.3 on the back. That's if the rims can cope.

Im glad you brought up the subject of tyres, their Kona's Mr Dirt and The Cleaner 2.06 (funny size) but their bloody awesome, dont pump them up to hard. The headset isn't original (after 18 years its no wonder) its a FSA Orbit Ive never seen another like it. Ive owned this bike from new.

While not quite comparable due to different tubing, I thought I would mention it anyway. My '97 Explosif can just fit in 2.25" Schwalbe's but it's a bugger getting them past my v-brakes.
That's on XC717 (I see some in your pick, you using them ?)
I wouldn't go any wider on the XC717's though.

hi
as anthony confirmed, there is two version of this lovely frame, the non fluted downtube version is a little bit lighter (and maybe rarer) . I weigh mine at 4lbs. you must have the white "tange ultimate sticker" instead of the dark blue one. I use some big 2.2 continental race king ss on, and that's pretty nice with rigid fork ;)

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not using the 717's as I've sold the rear hub and front wheel. (The rear was worn out anyway).

So I'm using the XT parallax hubs the fronts one a 317 and the rear a 517. (there's pics of them as well).

Also I've bought some Magura HS33 and they're good for up to 2.5" tyres. I'll mostly be riding it in Epping and it's already bit of a mud fest so It's got Bonty Mud Xs in the pics 1.8 rear and 2.0 front.

I'd like to try a 2.2 on the rear and a 2.3 on the front. (If the 2.3 doesn't work I can use it on one of my other bikes). Hopefully some wider tyres at about 30/35psi will give me a bit of bounce and will float over mud whilst still having some traction.

Saying that I'm probably better off with the narrower mud tyres.
