Would you do me a favour and take picture of your handlebar on the place where it goes through the stem. I just want to see if there is gap between handlebar and stem as it is with in my case...

It is difficult to get it in a picture, but indeed there is a gap of 1 mm at widest.

Oh I can see it on photo from the post above...it is the same. I have feeling it could fit 27-28mm wide handlebar if there were handlebars with those diameters.
