'94/'95 GT RTS-2

Retro Newbie
Alright guys, I've been meaning to get this on here for yonks and I've finally gotten round to doing it.

This is my dads GT RTS-2 which he bought years ago and used for a few months before he got sidetracked and it spent almost a decade in our shed under lock and key.

I was digging around and found it under a dust sheet about six months ago and my head nearly fell off. It's in such great nick I couldn't believe it!

The only issue is the rockshox forks are ruined. They're missing an allen key bolt on top of the left stanchion and the leg is devoid of all oil. I think they could easily be repaired but I cant even figure out what model they are let alone find someone who will repair them.

In fact, I've realised I know basically nothing about this bike other than the fact that the RTS-2 frame was the predecessor (?) to the LTS frame which everyone hated. I'm told that the RTS-2 frame was one of the more popular frames built by GT in this period, and in contrast to it's little brother was a pretty awesome frame.

So yeah, let me know what you think of this and maybe if you could help me with some of the history of this bike and possible a solution for the fork problem, even better. I at least hope you enjoy looking at this lovely thing.

Really?

Haha oops sorry mate I didn't mean to tread on any feet with that, like I said I don't know much about bikes of that era, in my defence I was 6 years old at the time, I was just going on what a buddy of mine told me about them. Just had a look at your build and it's actually awesome so forgive me on that one!

LTS received similarly rave reviews to this little beauty at the time of it's release.

A lucky find, I've always admired GT RTS's

I really like the RTS's too - it was a toss-up between an RTS and an LTS when I started thinking about a build. If I'd been offered an RTS first I could have been going down an entirely different build route altogether! :)

Your RTS looks like a minter. Get the Autosol out and shine that front triangle up ;)

Haha it's funny you should mention autosol, I had a little go using some just after I found it in the summer, it's amazing how good a job that stuff does! It just totally gets rid of the blemishes.

Do you use your finger or a cloth? I tried using my finger and it works great and covers more of the surface than a cloth. Grotty finger afterwards though...

I use a cloth for applying it, another cloth for the first rub down, then another cloth to clean it up properly :)
